Sri Lanka — Wellness

Ayurveda, honestly described.

Most operators sell a week of massages and call it Panchakarma. Genuine Panchakarma takes two to three weeks. We sell it separately, at the length it actually needs, and we describe the shorter programmes as what they are.

That costs us some bookings. It also means you will know what you are buying.

What you are actually signing up for.

Ayurveda is a medical tradition, not a spa treatment. A proper programme begins with a consultation with a registered physician, who assesses your constitution and prescribes a daily programme for you specifically — treatments, internal herbal medicine, diet, and rest.

That means your days are structured. It means the food is prescribed rather than chosen. It means the treatments are decided by the doctor, not picked from a menu. And it means some of it is unglamorous.

If you want a beach holiday with a massage, we will happily plan you one — but it is not this.

Four programmes, by length.

Which one is right depends less on your budget than on what you are trying to achieve and how long you can genuinely be away.

01 · 5 nights

Reset

A short restorative stay. A consultation on arrival, a daily treatment, daily yoga, and unstructured time to stop.

We make no clinical claims for five nights. It is a proper pause, and for a lot of people that is exactly what is needed. It is also a sensible way to find out whether Ayurveda suits you before committing to something longer.

02 · 7 to 10 nights

Ayurvedic Wellness Programme

Consultation with a registered Ayurvedic physician on arrival, a written programme built around you, two hours of prescribed treatment daily, internal herbal medicine, daily yoga and meditation, and a diet set by the doctor. An exit consultation and guidance to take home.

This is our most-booked programme and the right length for most first-time visitors. It is a genuine Ayurvedic wellness programme. It is not Panchakarma, and we will not call it that.

03 · 5 to 7 nights

Men’s Wellness

Built deliberately, because the wellness industry has spent thirty years talking almost exclusively to women.

Outcome-led rather than restful. Objective measurements when you arrive and again when you leave — body composition, blood pressure, and where the centre can provide it, bloods and sleep. A written report at departure so you can see what actually changed.

Ayurvedic treatment runs alongside physical training rather than instead of it, and the diet supports that. Available privately, as a couple, or as a small group.

If you have been sceptical about wellness travel, this is the programme built for you.

04 · 14 to 21 nights

Classical Panchakarma

The full classical sequence — preparation, the main treatments, and the recovery phase — residential, physician-led, and at the duration the treatment genuinely requires.

This is a serious undertaking. The diet is restricted, the days are structured, and parts of it are demanding. Done properly it is also the only version of Panchakarma worth the name.

Two to three weeks is not a marketing position. It is how long it takes.

Who this is not for.

We would rather say this now than after you have paid.

These programmes are not holidays with a wellness element. There is little drinking, the food is prescribed, and the schedule is not yours to set. If you are travelling with someone who wants a beach and a bar, one of you will be unhappy.

Some conditions and medications are not compatible with Ayurvedic treatment, and a good centre will tell you so at consultation — occasionally after you have arrived. We will flag anything we can see in advance, but we are not clinicians and we will not pretend to be.

We are finalising our Sri Lankan partners and indicative prices now, and will publish them here shortly. If you are thinking about 2027, it is worth starting the conversation early — the best centres and the right physicians book up well ahead.

Advice you can trust, journeys you’ll cherish.

Tell us roughly where, roughly when, and what you are hoping for. Shabnam will reply personally within two working days — or call, if you would rather talk it through.
