Mauritius in March: what it's really like

September 29, 2026

March is a good month for Mauritius if you want hot days and a warm sea, and you can live with humidity and the odd downpour. It is not the driest or coolest time to go, and it sits inside cyclone season. Here is what that really means, so you can decide before you book.

The weather in March

Expect around 30°C by day, 22°C at night, and a sea at about 28°C. That is bath-warm, so swimming and snorkelling are easy. You get roughly 7 hours of sunshine a day, but the air is humid, and it feels stickier than the number suggests.

March is also one of the wetter months: typically around 190 mm of rain across about 17 rainy days. In practice that usually means short, heavy showers that clear, not grey days on end. Coastal areas tend to get more sun than the central plateau (Mauritius Met Services puts coastal sunshine at 7.5 to over 8 hours a day). Pack light clothes, a rain layer and reef shoes, and plan a lazy first day.

Figures are long-term averages for the island, not a forecast. Weather in the north-west can differ from the island-wide picture.

Cyclones, honestly

Cyclone season runs from November to April, so March is inside it. On average, about 1.2 days in March are likely to be affected by a tropical storm. Most years pass without a direct hit, and one passing over or near the island is fairly unusual, but it is a real possibility.

What to expect if one is forecast: the Mauritius Meteorological Services tracks systems daily and issues warnings, hotels are built to keep guests safe, and the main disruption for visitors is usually delayed or changed flights. That can mean an extra night or two.

If that would spoil your trip, or you can't be flexible on dates, March is probably not your month. If you are relaxed about it, it is a very good one.

Who Veranda Pointe aux Biches suits

It is a 4-star beachfront hotel on Mauritius' north-west coast, between Pointe aux Piments and Trou aux Biches, and it has recently reopened. The feel is relaxed and barefoot, not formal.

It tends to suit couples and friends who want sea, sand and an easy pace. The hotel has two pools, a wellness lounge overlooking the lagoon, and three places to eat and drink: Senses Restaurant, Foot Loose Beach Restaurant and Lazy Pool Bar.

One thing to know before you book. Sandy Lane Village is the adults-only area, and its restaurant, bar and infinity pool are open only to guests staying in Privilege rooms. The offer price below is for a Comfort Room, so it does not include Sandy Lane. If the adults-only side matters to you, ask us and we will check a Privilege room price.

It is a less obvious fit if you want nightlife, a big-resort programme or a formal dining scene. Because it has only just reopened, check recent guest reviews before you decide, and ask us anything you want checked with the operator first.

What half board covers

On this package, half board means a buffet breakfast and a buffet dinner. The quote also lists a welcome drink, selected land and water sports activities, and free Wi-Fi. Lunch and other drinks are paid for separately. We have not seen whether drinks come with the buffet dinner, so ask us and we will confirm it before you book.

The package price also includes economy flights, transfers and mandatory taxes. Around £19 per person is payable in resort, and it can change with the exchange rate.

Insurance and flexibility

Book travel insurance at the same time as the holiday, and check that it covers cancellation and disruption from severe weather. Cover for a named storm can be excluded once it has been named, so the timing matters.

Also leave a little slack at the end of the trip if you can. If a storm delays flights, a tight connection home on the same day is the thing that hurts most.

Getting there

On the quote we checked, the flights are with Emirates via Dubai in both directions. The outbound flight leaves London Stansted at 14:05 on 16 March and lands in Mauritius at 09:10 on 17 March, about 15 hours including a 1 hour 25 minute stop in Dubai. The return leaves Mauritius at 22:30 on 24 March and lands at Stansted at 12:05 on 25 March, about 17 and a half hours including a 3 hour 10 minute stop.

The quote lists 2 pieces of checked baggage on both flights. We will confirm the allowance for each passenger before you book.

It is a long way, and you land mid-morning, so ask us about early check-in. Transfers between the airport and the hotel are included both ways. Flight times can change, so treat these as the times on that quote, not a promise.

A look at the rooms

The price is for a Comfort Room. It is 33 sqm and opens onto either the pool or the garden, with royal blue shades and white accents. It has king size or twin beds, air conditioning, satellite television, a mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, an in-room safe, a hairdryer and Wi-Fi.

The photos below are of rooms at the hotel. Room types differ, so we confirm exactly which room you are booking before you pay.

Honeymoons, weddings and anniversaries

If you are travelling for a honeymoon, wedding, vow renewal or wedding anniversary, the hotel has a special offer for stays from 1 February 2027 to 31 January 2028. It includes:

  • Gifts in the room when you arrive (once per stay).
  • Seasonal fruit and a bottle of sparkling wine.
  • A private three-course set menu dinner on Sandy Lane Beach, with water and two glasses of wine or sparkling wine, weather permitting.
  • A special turn-down, for stays of 5 nights or more.

The honeymoon offer is for honeymooners only, and you must show a marriage certificate issued in the last 12 months when you check in. Vow renewals and wedding anniversaries qualify in the first year and every fifth year after that, and your stay must be within 3 months before or after the anniversary date. You need to show a wedding certificate at check-in.

The quote we checked lists this offer with the price, but the extras are only for couples who qualify. If this applies to you, tell us before you book and we will check it with the operator.

The small print, in plain English

Read this before you book. It comes from the hotel's notices and the booking terms as they stand now, and it can change.

  • The hotel allows a maximum of 7 rooms on one booking. 8 rooms or more, or 15 people or more, counts as a group, and group room rates may be different. If several bookings for the same arrival and departure dates add up to more than 7 rooms, group conditions apply whenever you booked.
  • Sandy Lane Village is adults only. Its restaurant, bar and infinity pool are open only to guests staying in Privilege rooms.
  • All guests get a free shuttle to Trou aux Biches beach five times a week. You must book in advance at Reception. It leaves the hotel at 10:00 and leaves the Trou aux Biches pick-up point at 15:00.
  • You cannot cancel a booking at this hotel and rebook the same dates.
  • A tourism tax is payable at the hotel per person per night. On the quote we checked, local fees and taxes came to EUR 42 for the room, about £37 at the time, paid at the hotel. It moves with the exchange rate.
  • The hotel has run two savings on this stay. The September Sale gave 5% off stays of 7 nights or more, and it ended on 5 October 2026. The Island Bliss offer gives 30% off stays from 1 February to 30 April 2027, and you need to book by 15 October 2026. Prices are higher once a saving ends, so ask us for the current price.
  • Every change or cancellation costs an extra £50 per person. The airline failure protection and ATOL protection charges are not refundable. Where a 100% cancellation charge applies, airport taxes may be only partly refundable, depending on the airline's rules, and sometimes not at all. Flight changes depend on availability, and taxes are re-quoted when you change. To change or cancel, contact us.

The offer

7 nights, half board, at Veranda Pointe aux Biches, for selected departures between 16 and 24 March 2027. The price is for 2 adults sharing a Comfort Room, and includes economy flights from London Stansted, airport transfers and mandatory taxes. This offer is for adults only. It is subject to availability and can be withdrawn at any time.

When we checked on 7 October 2026, the price was from £1,586 per person (£3,171 in total for 2 adults). It includes the hotel's 30% Island Bliss saving, which needs booking by 15 October 2026, so the price may go up after that. It is not held until it is booked. For the latest price for your dates, WhatsApp us.

This is a package from a tour operator we work with, not a Nzurie-built trip, which is why flights are included. The holiday is operated by Gold Medal Travel Group Ltd (ABTA V6805, ATOL protected 2916), and you get their booking terms when you book.
